"Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its' ability to climb a tree, it will spend its' whole life believing it is stupid."

Dana Bortel, M.S., LSW - Therapist

Dana is a Licensed Social Worker and she specializes in working with adolescents and young adults. She earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Albright College and her Master’s degree in Social Work from Temple University.

Dana chose to specialize in working with adolescents because she enjoys seeing their potential, even when they can’t, and giving them a sense of hope about their potential. In addition to her education and clinical experience, Dana considers raising three children as a significant contribution to her life education.

Adolescents, just like adults, can experience stress during the teen years. School related stress may include peer pressure, bullying, learning difficulties, test anxiety, or poor time management skills. Family related stress may include parental discord, divorce, major illness, or death of a family member.

Dana’s goal in working with adolescents is to foster an atmosphere of warmth, safety, compassion, and non-judgment as a means to assist the client toward self-awareness and positive sense of well-being.

Dana utilizes the bio/psycho/social model for growth and change. She evaluates the physical, emotional, and social environment and seeks to identify and develop strength and growth areas while reducing stress and increasing coping skills. Dana also uses Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a way for adolescents to change their negative/limiting thoughts and beliefs into empowering ones.
